Updated 24th April 2012.
Welcome
Welcome to the Buxton Circuit Web-site.
We are a family of churches serving the hill-town of Buxton and the surrounding villages. We exist to serve both those who live in our communities and the many people who visit this beautiful part of God's world.
We hope that you will find the information you need but please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further help.
We hope you enjoy your visit to this site but if there is anything more we can do to improve it please tell us.
Warm greetings,
Colin Smith Methodist Minister
About our Circuit.
Our circuit which is in the Manchester & Stockport District has eight Churches located in and around Buxton and the Peak District National Park which is a wonderful place for a holiday or week end break.
We have a variety of worship within the circuit and you can be assured of a warm welcome at each of our Churches.
We have recently added to this site some information on Weddings, Christenings and Funerals. This can be found at the "Special Services" link above.
We have also recently put more information on the Churches in our circuit and this can be found on the "Churches" link above.
Our Circuit Superintendent is the Rev Colin Smith who is supported by Deacon Janet Heys, Roger Mallard our Children & Young People Worker and an active Lay Leadership Team.
The area we live in has some amazing scenery but it also has its share of problems. These include inner town deprivation in parts of the Fairfield area of Buxton and the less recognised but real, rural deprivation in other parts of the Circuit.
Something to think about in 2012.
At the "Short " Communion Service held at Buxton on Tuesday each week Colin gives a short talk. For some years we have put the talks on this website but this stopped when his lap top was stolen and the talks and other things lost.
Happily the lap top has been replaced and we are starting to put the new talks on again.
The first two talks based on Acts are "Stories of the Christian family" which can be found here and "Being True to God & Ourselves" which can be found here.
Talk 3 of this new series is entitled "St. Paul and St. Paul's - the challenge of faith" can be found hereAlthough it is now January 2012 the next five talks were given by Colin in 2011 in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The first two of these talks "Lydia: lucky find or God-given helper?" can be found here and "Humans:exploited or cared for" can be found here
The next three talks are now available and entitled "Seizing the opportunity" here
"Two Kings Very Different Agendas" here
"God Revealed in a baby!" here
It is now February 2012 and Buxton is still covered in snow with temperatures below freezing. Colin still using Luke entitles his talk "To Give & Give Again." This can be found here
February is still here although for today at least the temperatures are above freezing and we have even seen that welcome yellow object in the sky called the sun. Colin aware of Saint Valentine talks about "The cost of true love" which you can find here.
Still in February yesterday was a wonderful day with temperatures about 16C. Today it's raining and much cooler. Colin undaunted by the changes in the weather writes "Many churches, one Lord."which you can find here
First day of March now and Colin is inspired to say "The devil quotes Scripture, too!" in his latest challenging talk which can be read here
Mid March and Colin asks "Who is God?" which you can find here
April 2012 and Colin discusses difficult issues in "The Stranger Revealed" using Luke 24.13-35 which can be found here
Mid April 2012 "Our Resurrection" from Luke 24.36-43 can be found here
Sermons written by Colin in 2009 can be found here. The 2010 & 11 Sermons are here
PRAYER
We go into the world
