Peak Dale Methodist Church

Peak Dale is a village lying 3 miles north east of Buxton and has a population of about 850. The village grew in the last decades of the 19th century to provide accommodation for the growing number of quarry workers. Upper End is the oldest part of the village. The quarrying industry is still the main employer in the area. There is a primary school with 88 pupils attending. There is only one shop/post office, one licensed Club and no village hall. Public transport is good into Buxton and Chapel en le Frith.

Upper End chapel was opened in 1881 and the Sunday School hall was extended in 1955, incorporating a vestry, kitchen and two toilets. It is the only place of Christian worship in the village, the Anglican Church having closed a few years ago.

Roger Mallard, the Circuit Youth Worker, leads Breakfast Church followed by All Age Worship once a month. The other services are traditional. Roger also leads Messy Church once a month at the school. This is very well patronised. Colin Smith, our Minister, is holding a monthly Bible Study during the summer.

The hall is used for elections, Tarmac Quarry exhibitions and accommodates a pre-school group. We hold a monthly coffee morning, which is open to anyone in the village. A considerable amount of money is required to bring the building up to standard but we are currently in the process of raising the money for this.
